Israel's electronics industry contributes
some 40% of all industrial exports. In 1993,
electronics surpassed polished diamonds as
Israel's leading industrial export, and has
grown ever since. Between 1997 and 1998 the
industry grew by 15%. The electronics industry
is also Israel's largest value-added industry,
comprising 68% of that sector's total sales. As
well, Israel's investment in civilian R&D is
a high 3% of GDP, fully half of which is
oriented to the electronics industry. The
majority of the more than 100 Israeli companies
quoted on Wall Street stock exchanges are in the
fields of electronics and
software.

areas: Micro-electronics, communications,
semiconductors, internet applications, medical
equipment, smart cards, electro-optics, test
equipment and measurement, industrial control,
multimedia, textiles, printing, agriculture,
defense electronics, computerized and peripheral
equipment, environmental diagnostic systems,
safety security systems and equipment, aviation
and aerospace systems and equipment, information
technology and infrastructure.
